A dress for Flidais

Here I am with my brand new blog and its first post...it's something really new for me, because I've never used this kind of platform before.
I think almost every blogger gets to the same starting problem: what to write in the first post?
I decided to start with some pictures taken from my latest photo shooting, which is about the costume I created taking inspiration from the same thing that gave name to my brand, so to this blog: Flidais!
I know, if you got reading this far, now you'll be wondering ''what is this name about?''
Flidais is a celtic goddess' name, she's the woods' and wild creatures' protector.
I've chosen her as my ''inspirational muse'' because of different reasons: first of all, cause I've always been interested to the celtic and nordic mythology, with all their fantastic creatures that gave life to many masterpieces of the Fantasy genre (which I'm obsessed with); and then because Nature itself is my main source of inspiration: I love the colors of the trees, of the leaves in Fall, of the sky; the infinite shades that only the Sun rays can paint, the flowing water, the clouds' shape, but also the Moon and all the creatures that run in the shadow of the woods under her protection...well, this is Flidais, so I think I couldn't find a better name!

Here you are some pictures of the realization of this costume, from the making of, to the final photo shooting!

This illustration is the result of many research that I made about Medieval and Renaissance age garments, in addition to the celtic goddess inspiration. I'm not really great at drawing, but making some sketches is important to get an idea about the dress shape, and then starting designing the pattern.

The fabric  that I chose is a green damask, which texture reminds me of a network of branches. I added to it two other fabrics in different shades of green, that I used to make the sleeves and the side panels of the bodice.

Calico test: I always do this step in order to fix any possible mistake on the pattern, before cutting the real fabric.

The dress is nearly done: here I was trying on some decorative trimmings and then adding the sleeves on.

Here is the photo shooting; the location is a very nice grove plenty of suggestive corners, illuminated by a soft light filtering through the trees, that gives to the place a sort of fairy atmosphere...

One thing that can put me in a really good mood is to spend time in the nature, especially among the woods of the beautiful mountains where I was born, in Aosta Valley, so this photo shooting has been a lovely experience to me.
I hope you enjoyed my first post, and to make more soon.
Thanks for watching and...give me a sign of your passage leaving a comment! :)
